Madrid comes from the Arab word "al-majrit,"
meaning "the water channel." It is the capital of Spain. It is centrally located in the Iberian Peninsula and was founded by the Moors in the 9th Century. It is a city of great and important monuments, and picturesque villages. It has a very rich history and boasts of great museums and art galleries. You will find the richest museum in the world (Prado Museum) and the largest palace in Europe (El Palacio Real) in Madrid. The city is also known for its legendary nightlife. |
