La Ribera's name refers to the waterfront and was the main commercial dockland of medieval Barcelona. You'll find Barcelona's most visited museum here - the Museu Picasso, which houses 80% of Picasso's works of art. Parc Guell is an enchanting park where Antonio Gaudi, a Modernista architect-artist, turned his hand to landscape gardening. Count Eusebi Guell bought a tree-covered hillside and commissioned Gaudi to turn it into a miniature garden city of homes for the rich, in landscaped grounds. It is extremely popular and irresistible to photographers. You'll notice that his architectural designs in Parc Guell are inspired by mushrooms. See samples of his works below. |
